About This Tour

Chicago Haunted Ghost Tour

Chicago doesn’t have to try very hard to be haunted. This is a city that has survived fire, plague, political corruption, and some of the worst disasters in American history — and in a lot of cases, the buildings where those things happened are still standing. The ghost stories here aren’t just campfire fodder. They’re threads that pull you back into real events, real people, and a side of Chicago history that the architecture tours tend to skip over.

Over two hours, your guide will walk you through stories that have genuinely unsettled this city for generations. You’ll hear about a hotel so troubled by one of its own rooms that management eventually just sealed it off from the inside. You’ll learn about a single morning on the Chicago River when more people drowned than in almost any other maritime disaster in U.S. history — and why it happened so fast. And you’ll come to understand how a theater packed with over 600 people on a cold December afternoon became the site of one of the deadliest building disasters this country has ever seen, largely because of decisions made long before opening night. These aren’t urban legends. They’re documented, detailed, and deeply strange.

The tour is free to join — your guide works entirely for tips. We suggest $15–25 per person if you feel the tour earned it, but there’s no pressure and no obligation upfront. The tour runs rain or shine, so dress for whatever Chicago decides to throw at you, and wear shoes you’re comfortable walking in for a couple of hours.

What You’ll Discover

Four things that make this tour unforgettable

Discover how civic negligence and cut corners — not bad luck — turned ordinary days in Chicago into some of the deadliest moments in American urban history.

Understand why Chicago’s ghost stories have unusual staying power: many are rooted in documented disasters, real victims, and institutions that are still operating today.

Gain a completely different lens on Chicago’s architectural and civic legacy — one shaped as much by tragedy and cover-up as by ambition and innovation.

Leave with a sense of how a city processes collective grief, sometimes by sealing a door, sometimes by keeping quiet, and sometimes by just moving on a little too fast.
